What gauge butterfly needle for a cat or small dog?
23G is the usual choice for small animal venipuncture and the size most practices keep in quantity. Smaller patients and very fine veins sometimes call for 25G; larger dogs may take 21G. Gauge is a clinical judgement, and a practice normally stocks more than one.
Can these be used for infusion as well as blood collection?
Yes. The Luer lock attaches to a syringe for drawing, or to an extension set and infusion line for fluid therapy. That is what the winged set is for — it stays where it was placed once the animal moves.
Are they reusable?
No. Single use only. Do not resterilise. Each set is individually sealed and goes into a sharps container after use.
